Moroccan oil is at Bijou

One of our new favorite products is Moroccan oil, here is a bit of info on this great product we are happy to carry at Bijou in Skaneateles, NY.

INTRODUCING THE POWER OF MOROCCANOIL™Link

MOROCCANOIL™ has the unique quality of instant absorption into hair, creating an instant shine without leaving an oily residue.

Moroccanoil™:

● Softens thick unmanageable hair.

● Restores shine and softness to dull lifeless hair. Strengthens brittle hair.

● Promotes healing and provides nourishment to hair damaged by coloring
and styling.

● Creates an optimal balance for the hair and scalp.

● Nourishes the scalp (alleviates itchy, dry scalp)

● Protects against UV damage and other environmental factors.

● Reduces drying time and speeds up styling time.

MOROCCANOILhas a patented weightless formula with no build up.

MOROCCANOIL is stored in an Amber Glass bottle to protect the oil from ultraviolet rays that cause oxidation and degradation.

About MOROCCANOIL™

Moroccanoil™ has developed a unique, ultra light, non-greasy formula that seals in shine producing silky perfection for all hair types.

Moroccanoil™ combines traditional methods with contemporary needs and technology. It revitalizes hair and brings new opportunities to stylists and salons. For centuries Argan oil has traditionally been used by women in Morocco to treat hair and nails in order to counteract the effects of the hot climate and aging. The Argan tree only grows in an area of South West Morocco called Argana. It flourishes in the desert-like conditions and produces lush fruits much like olives yet larger and rounder. Inside the fruit grows a large nut that houses up to three almond-shape kernels which are the source of the miraculous oil.

Argan oil contains unsaturated fatty acids and is rich in tocopherols which works like vitamin E (nature's most powerful antioxidant agent). Argan oil naturally renews cell structure and always consistently restores shines to dull lifeless hair.

Some clients have said: "I love the way it makes my hair smell, I'll roll over in bed and get a whiff of it...it takes me away to a far off place." - Beth C. (I know your reading Beth, Hi there!)

"I love the way it makes my hair feel and it makes blowdrying so much quicker, I don't know how, but it does!" - Sherry P.

Kid's at Bijou!

My little friend "R", has a secret....I know, you think her secret is she has a side pony tail...so predicteable....NOPE!!

Here it is!! Sometimes its just too hard to make a decision....pony or braid, pony or braid....
I'll take one of each!! With some sprinkles on top!!!
It's been a fun day at Bijou! I think "R" should change her name to Punky....Brewster that is!!

"T" and his Peeps

Tips for when you have a child who isn't too keen on getting his hair cut....
1) It's all in how you present it...try to avoid saying do you want to get your hair "CUT", kids know when they gut a cut, it doesn't feel great....try using words like, would you like to get your hair "STYLED" or would you like to get a "TRIM"...this really does help!
2) If for the first time, they have anxiety or scream....just skip the cut, don't force it...this is mostly important for the first time...make it a pleasant experience, there is nothing worse for us or them to be put in a headlock while screaming.
3) Try a little peace and calming essential oil..this has worked!
4) Bribes work too, we like bribes!!
5) Let them watch others get their cut, and note how nice and relaxing it is.
AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS....HAVE THEIR "PEOPLE" ALL AROUND THEM, MAKING FUNNY FACES, GOOFY TALK AND DISTRACT THEM ENOUGH TO GET A HAIRCUT IN!

Little "T" with his "people" all helping to distract him, while Kimberlee gives him a "style", not a "cut"..
Notice the candy in his hand, and the candy in his uncles hand:)
He's almost finished! And now everyone is exhausted;)

After years and years, of not being able to do anything...

Enough times I have seated a client into my chair, talked over what we would do and then got to my favorite part...the visiting and catching up:) and they have broken me the news....they have cancer. Every time, I want to scream, I want it to stop, I want them to just FIND A CURE!!

At times, I have felt helpless in helping someone, and just did what I could...be there, make a meal, shave a head, fix a wig, give other clients experiences to try to offer support or ideas to help...mostly, I've just felt helpless. To be totally honest, I never had that extra money laying around to make any contribution that I felt was substantial in my eyes. BUT now, mostly due to such a wonderful and full year at Bijou, all of us girls can help!

We will be donating 10% of our monthly sales from services towards the National Breast cancer foundation! I thought this was the best one, but please if anyone else has another suggestion, I am open to any foundation. What I was originally looking for was something that helped people offset the cost of drugs and extra stuff you don't anticipate. We just had a client in who was saying that she had to be careful about her budget and wouldn't be allowing herself to travel or any little extras because just one dose of a certain medication would cost her $600, I was listening (as it wasn't one of my clients) and I was aghast that she would have to pay for that on her own, and only one dose...I asked her if there was any kind of medication "bank", because she had also mentioned, that sometimes she bought the meds and then could not use them, but could not return them...I was heartbroken, aren't we supposed to be one of the richest countries??? While listening to her, I was thinking....oh please, how can I offer this service to her that she was getting without making her feel uncomfortable...and as if Courtney read my mind, she told her "this is my treat for you today, I want to do this for you, and I won't take no for an answer!" Times like that, I am so pleased to have girls with hearts the size of mine!

So if anyone has any suggestions for another great foundation, I do think we will have a considerable donation and it would be nice to make two different donations!

So from now until the last day in October, we will all be working hard to make those dollars add up and at least now feel like in another way we can try to make a difference!

So please stop in, pick up a tiny pink ribbon (that Thomas, Dylan and Chase made, even though, "they don't have boobies," they too want to help:) and Please check back here at Bijou salon in skaneateles blog in November to see how much we were able to send out!
