And now for the prom!

Our most beautiful of them all, Victoria..(we are soo biased;)

Before and after for nails...Cassie was our model!

The Skaneateles Junior prom was the day before the Grand re opening celebration! Here are just a few photos from that day! We kept the girls hydrated and provided them with snacks...to avoid any hypoglycemic melt downs ;) Nah really, we just wanted them happy! Kimberlee rocked on make up, each girl looked like movie stars, and Sam, Linda, Courtney and me, made each girl super happy! It flowed very nicely and having the extra space was so nice!

You don't need to go to Jamaica for Cornrow braids...

That's right, no need to head to Jamaica or Bahama's for cornrows for your kids....Kimberlee does them at Bijou in Skaneateles....Yep! Right here, think of the money you'll save on plane tickets ;)

It's a great way for kids to keep their hair out of their faces and you can keep them in for quite some time! I think with a trim this took Kimberlee under an hour!

The return of Punky Brewster

Here she is Bijou's very own Punky Brewster!

Does anyone remember her hairdo the last time, if not, click here!

So this time, she was going for a big change!

I don't know if you can see it or not, but Kimberlee is cutting her hair right up to her hair line for a really cute stacked out bob!
Now here she is again, all finished and plotting her style! It looks like she is saying a pony here, and then this here! Boy wait till this little one goes to her prom!
So the tragedy here is.....NO PICTURE!!! Yeah, we're not perfect! But let me try to tell you how it was....a braid to the left, a braid to the right, zig zag from the top to the bottom and a braid straight down the middle in her bangs! It was pretty cute. Lil Punky is used to being on blogs, her Mama has one too! Maybe she has a picture, since we forgot!

See look at that! The magic of internet, her mama read this and then sent me over a picture, now you don't have to use your imagination!

Michele wanted a Cadillac!

Remember not tooo long ago when our very own Courtney Conley wanted a convertible?!?!

Well not long after, our very own Michele Zeppieri kept saying she wanted a Cadillac!

I personally thought she found a new car she liked and was talking about that ;) haha, well I kinda knew what she was talking about, but it kept getting funnier and funnier...have I mentioned we have a lot of fun at Bijou?

So she and Kimberlee got together late one night and Kimberlee gave Michele her famous convertible (the Cadillac kind I should say!) and Michele touched up Kimberlee's famous locks! I should have had a movie camera, I can't give details, but it was funny! I stayed just for the entertainment aspect of it:)

So here are the results....If you come see her, Michele now has Jet Black on one side, totally hidden if she wants...and on the other side, vibrant (like her) Red!....again the photos don't do it justice, so if you are really curious, you should just stop in for a look:) Michele is our evening girl, so she is here from 3:30 to 8, sometimes 9pm!

I hope you enjoy the pictures, imagine a lot of fun going on!

And just so we don't leave out Kimberlee, here she is with her color finished, as always, it's perfect and looks fabulous on her!!

Bijou's Top ten "news" from 2008!

The year has passed by in record speed. With that year passing, there have been many changes, yet many things have also stayed the same!

While reading the Skaneateles Journal on New year's eve, I read the top ten stories of 2008, something every year I like to do! And I began thinking...hmmm has Bijou had 10 stories for 2008? Let me make an attempt and see:

1. Our Bijou blog was born actually in 2007, however only 2 posts were completed, having much more ideas and committing myself to actually putting them on the blog, in 2008 with the help from Courtney and Michele, I completed 69 posts. Having almost 3000 visitors for the first year to our blog, inspires me to continue. Hearing such lovely comments from Cheryl and Beth (2 women that I admire greatly) about my amateurish writing has me not so self conscious of all my run on sentences and incorrect grammar:) It is just a blog after all, for others, I ask, please forgive me if I butcher a paragraph, keep in mind I do these normally very late at night! Also in January 2008 Jackie Gage joined Kimberlee and I, who were working together as a duet for about 3 months, so quiet it was then, I remember wondering where the 2008 year would take us....I am so grateful for what it has brought us, soo grateful!

2. In April we were joined by Michele Zeppieri, bringing to us almost 22 years of experience! Click here for some previous posts about her!

3. In May Connie Willits our Bijou expert on the Young living oils came for a summer position, we do hope to see her again this fall, she fit in perfect with us girls! We were lucky enough to learn a lot about the young living essential oils, which can benefit all of us in one way or another!

4. June brought us Courtney Conley you can read about her here!

5. July...you guessed it, another girl! Wow, looking back I guess we just exploded! Every girl was a perfect fit! Lori Lovell, someone I had so enjoyed working with in the past, joined the Bijou team and we all couldn't imagine Bijou life without her! Here is one page of her work, I guess I need to do some Bio work for her:) ACTUALLY her husband is a very talented writer, maybe I'll try to get some help from him!

6. We've changed alot in products, finding what works the best! Eufora is still our favorite and really does make brand new hair, but now we've added Kenra to our list, we added Glo minerals for our make up, bidwell scrubs and lotions. We still have our shoe doodles and also our blissfull bath bombes.

7. We celebrated our year anniversary, had a month long of thankfulness with treats from savoir fair and lots of really good specials!

8. We took a challenge for the month of October to donate 10% of our proceeds on services and raised almost $1500 to send to the National Breast cancer foundation! Next year we will plan better and try to double our attempts!

9. We weren't happy with the performance and durability, not to mention comfort of our pedicure chairs, we made the decision to upgrade to the Cadillac of pedicure chairs and announced the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Rinato in November! We are happy to say that it was worth the investment and everyone loves them even more than we expected!

10. We are collecting email addresses and have started a monthly newsletter filled with great deals and news. We will also implement "last minute deals", just like the airlines give;) I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this new option, since it is all new to me too:) You can also subscribe at the top of this page to the bijou blog, basically every time I make some silly little post about whats going on at Bijou, it will be sent to you in email form or you can just check back every once in a while!

Well I did it, I realize they are not newsworthy stuff like in the papers, but thanks for reading on, we are proud and grateful! We really could not do any of this without you! Thank you!

Interesting Hair color by the Bijou girls!

Have you ever heard of convertible hair???

If I had to let you guess....what would you come up with??

Something I bet like this...wild, windblown hair, flying in your face!

Well...

That is wrong!

Last year Kimberlee and I went to a hair show in New York City, the guy who did the runway show had a fabulous stage presence and talked about his $700 color. He had a really cool technique where the model he had, was a relatively normal color, then he whipped her around, flipped her part and suddenly she was a shocking platinum blond. So Kimberlee and I have talked about this color for a year now, but in small town Skaneateles, there weren't a lot of daring people to try it on!

ENTER COURTNEY!

Okay, here are the personalities at Bijou:

Me, I'm pretty basic, I like my highlighted blond hair, sometimes I like to mix a little copper or caramel low lights in there, but for all intensive purposes, I stay comfortably in my box.

Jackie is the same, conservative would be a good word, conservative but still trendy, maybe a little tiny sassy, if you could pick up on those soft sassy tones that show in our hair:)

Lori, is the type that could go with some crazy colors, well some bold highlights or low lights, but right now, being a busy Mom of 3 and working part time, she keeps to her same color...when all the kids are in school, I see her getting more daring!

Michele, I think she goes through trendy colors, when she first started she was a dark chocolate brown with a BOLD streak of caramel on one side, she has pretty much morphed into a red head right now, each month a different shade.

Kimberlee, changes all the time, most people look forward to her ever changing color, and sometimes I think we should post an update on the sidebar with what color she is, just to forewarn the ones that don't like change much:) She has been all platinum with black on the bottom peaking out, or allover a dark mocha with caramel ribboning, back to platinum and dark peaking through, she is a brave one, I thought she was the one who would try anything!

And now for Courtney, I thought she was the basic brown in variations with some highlights or no highlights, but conservative....how wrong was I?? She jumped at the chance for trying our tales of "the convertible color"....and now on the odd days she can be platinum, and on the even days she can be a multitude of cherry red, caramel ribbons and black as black. Could it be that she is turning 30 next week and wants to take a walk on the wild side before she falls over the hill???!

So anyway, that is a convertible color...a color that you can wear as a blond (top down) or red, caramel and black (top up)....would anyone else try a convertible color????? Call us...we'll talk! 315-685-1300

"T" and his Peeps

Tips for when you have a child who isn't too keen on getting his hair cut....
1) It's all in how you present it...try to avoid saying do you want to get your hair "CUT", kids know when they gut a cut, it doesn't feel great....try using words like, would you like to get your hair "STYLED" or would you like to get a "TRIM"...this really does help!
2) If for the first time, they have anxiety or scream....just skip the cut, don't force it...this is mostly important for the first time...make it a pleasant experience, there is nothing worse for us or them to be put in a headlock while screaming.
3) Try a little peace and calming essential oil..this has worked!
4) Bribes work too, we like bribes!!
5) Let them watch others get their cut, and note how nice and relaxing it is.
AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS....HAVE THEIR "PEOPLE" ALL AROUND THEM, MAKING FUNNY FACES, GOOFY TALK AND DISTRACT THEM ENOUGH TO GET A HAIRCUT IN!

Little "T" with his "people" all helping to distract him, while Kimberlee gives him a "style", not a "cut"..
Notice the candy in his hand, and the candy in his uncles hand:)
He's almost finished! And now everyone is exhausted;)

Skaneateles Journal wrote about us!

To read the awesome article written about us, click here!

It was such a pleasure to sit and answer the questions from John, (and SO easy, although I do sometimes have the gift of gab:) I had met him at different times, with Dylan's Odyssey of the mind team, to name one. I was so pleased when I read the article. And quite happy that the beautiful Kimberlee was featured in the photo page, with only my hair and nose visible while I was hard at work, making Jennifer D. into a new women! (sometimes I make strange faces while concentrating;)

Thank you John for a great article and although the last sentence was lost somewhere, you wrote it so perfectly that I knew just what you were going to finish it with:) Now do stop in for that pedicure someday:) Men really do that, don'tcha know;)

We are so very fortunate and downright lucky! Read our other reviews I happened to find while searching for this article! Click here, here and here! Thank you!

Altieri Brothers and Kimberlee!

Let me first start off by saying...she agreed, only for a trim...she wanted to still grow her hair, but was willing take it a bit shorter...a little bit! Platform artists never listen to a "little bit"!

The first cut, she saw my face...and started to almost cry...

We had the chance to take a class a while back. I say a while back, because I will show you some pictures, but if you come into the salon, you will see how much Kimberlee's hair grew back already!

These guys are a dynamic duo, during the NYC show, I wrote on a piece of paper, 'could that be Elvis?' Riccardo, the bigger one, seriously was showing some hip action, you know, channeling Elvis. In all seriousness, these guys are excellent platform artists, they demonstrate reasonable cuts and styles that we can bring home to you. Sometimes at shows, you walk away with a couple things, but a tiny bit from this cut, a tiny bit from that one, but not one whole one if you know what I mean...I guess it doesn't make much sense, unless you have been to a hair show...they are rather avante guarde....like a beautiful cut...but that 12inches on the one side hanging in a sharp point is just plain weird...It's like going to a Paris fashion show, for couture...parts of them are gorgeous, but then sometimes the overall outfit, is just plain weird!

Okay, I'm sorry, I digress...So back to Riccardo and Tony...They came to Syracuse and we were invited to a private class with them...they are fun and after all they cut Miley Cyruses hair, amongst others, so we were happy and excited to attend!

This was a while ago, actually there was only Kimberlee, Jackie and me at the shop. And Kimberlee's hair is a lot longer now and different colors too! Once a month she changes her style, I just love that about her!

So here you are, the before, afters and during:) Riccardo Altieri's version of Posh Spice's bob!

Oooh, I was so happy to see a smile:) on her face, not that anyone could make Kimberlee look ugly, but you know, I didn't want any tears on the way home!!
