Happy Holidays from Bijou!

Well you can most certainly tell that Bijou is hopping, I can't get any emails done, any blog posts done and this morning we are JUST getting out our 1500 Christmas cards. I really can't blame working so much, I have also been entertaining and adjusting to a new baby in the house! WAIT, a new puppy I mean:) And although many of you thought we should name him Bijou, I figured that might be a bit much ;)

Wishing you all a wonderfully merry Christmas and Happy holidays, a prosperous New year and joy to the world! We give thanks at Bijou for a successful year, and as always, we couldn't have done it without you!

Threading at Bijou in Skaneateles!!

This is Somayyeah! She is Bijou's very own Threader!

What is Threading??

Threading hair is an ancient method commonly practiced in Eastern countries, like Egypt and India, but is becoming very popular here in the West. Threading removes the entire hair follicle, lasting up to 6 weeks.

How Does it Work?

A cotton thread is pulled along unwanted hair in a twisting motion, to trap hair in a mini lasso, and lifts hair right out of the follicle.
  • It’s extremely sanitary. Nothing but the thread touches the skin, and it’s thrown away after use.
  • Great for people with ‘trouble’ brows. Threading has this amazing ability to be so concise in the hair that it removes. It’s sworn by people who say they can never get their eyebrows even, despite tweezing, waxing or sugaring.
  • No chemicals are applied on the skin. When people have certain circumstances, or are taking medicines which conflicts with waxing and sugaring, they can still get threading done.
  • Temporary results can turn into permanent. Over time, frequent threading can cause the hair follicle to become damaged, and stop growing hair.
  • It is also beneficial for people with sensitive skin as it does not cause breakouts, excessive redness or pigmentation like waxing or shaving can.

Everyone who had Somayyeah do it on her first day loved it! Everyone really loved the look of it and was so impressed with her shaping! I'm telling you, my brows have never looked better and I don't think I will wax again!

Some clients that have been regular threaders told us more tidbits and benefits of threading over waxing...the most interesting to me was that when you wax, every time we do know that you remove a layer of skin as well, when you thread it massages the skin and never takes off a layer. Taking off layer of skin every two weeks or however often you wax can make you lose elasticity in your skin. So it was interesting the whole day and it was really fun to see the differences and comments with everyone! Michele (Our Michele Z) got her whole face done and her skin looked amazing! She even had Somayyeah do her sideburns because they grow down a little too far for her liking!

Another press piece, first a magazine, now another famous blog ;)

Hey! Do you know what Skaneateles Talk is?? (click on any highlighted words and this magic of internet will take you there!) Well it's a blog, like the one your reading, except its all about 'everything your mother never told you about Skaneateles', I've always like reading it and just recently they were able to hire John Turner who is a very talented writer from the Skaneateles Journal. He is doing a feature each week, called a day in the life. The first person he featured was our very own talented Dusty Pascal and his family! I had just finished reading it when Chris from Skaneateles Talk told me they would like to feature me next!

I LOVE what he wrote, everything was so perfectly said and truly that is a day in my life, it's not so hard, I've got it pretty easy:) However, I would like to say (because I know my family, especially my Mother and Father will be sure to mention;) I most certainly do not jump out of bed at 7am, it's a known fact in my family that mornings really HATE me and since I don't fancy coffee all that often, they can sometimes be brutal...I laughed when I was telling John Turner that I set my alarm at 7am purposely so that I could snooze it at least 4 times, he gallantly made it sound like I jumped out of bed at 7, ready for the day...My kids and Thomas are still laughing outloud!

I really cannot wait to see who else they feature and I think that they should make a book...I've seen sites where they can turn blogs into books, now that I'd buy!

Thanks again John for writing such a nice piece about moi, and thanks to Skaneateles Talk for thinking of me!

Look how cute these handmade felt knitted purses are!

These purses are just too cute! Great for anyone! They are hand knitted from stretched felt. The person who makes them is selling them for $35, can you believe it? AND we've decided that a portion of it will go to the Spafford Ecumenical food pantry. Gail (who is the artist) works at the school here, she also works with all the outreach groups, food pantries in town, etc. And when we were deciding what to do with a portion of the proceeds, I asked what place needed it the most? She said Spafford did! I did not know they even had one there. I was SO excited and asked her after we sold them all could we actually go to ALDI and buy the stuff ourselves and bring it there?? She said we could, and I'm such a dork, I'm waiting till we sell the other 6 (we had 12 and already sold half of them!!:) so we can go buy shopping carts of food! How fun is that!?

For some reason this green one is my favorite!

And this one too!

I'm lying...actually I love them ALL!
