Aveda Christmas gifts, coming soon to Bijou in Skaneateles!

Aveda,…ONCE AGAIN….has made it easy for us to consume and feel good about it!

The company has made gift giving easier by offering 8 limited edition gift sets (We have most of them at Bijou in Skaneateles!!) that help support the indigenous communities and craftsmanship of northwestern Nepal. Each gift set is embellished with Lokta paper (stunning), special paper handcrafted by men and women in Malika and Dolakha, the two forest regions in the Himalayas.

By using this paper, Aveda and consumers help to support the local industry ultimately keeping families together and reversing local deforestation in the region. This act helps to protect the snow leopards and other endangered animals in the region. Aveda’s partnership has allowed the Nepali community to experience an increase in household income by 318%, reduce migration for jobs by 15% and has enabled 4,800 children to go to school.

“This example of successful micro-enterprise reflects the Aveda mission as it cares for both the community and the planet,” says Dominique Conseil, president of Aveda.

Bijou salon will have these gifts, which are completely practical and affordable for you to buy for those hard to find people..those ones that you know they don't need not a single thing, but things that they can use and toss! I'll be sure to let you know when I have them displayed...of course I'll take a picture;)

Look what I found...

Look at these....don't you want them...I sure do! WOW! This artist never ceases to amaze me!

I love the computer, I don't know how I got here, but look what I found! I swear, I wouldn't even be thinking of Christmas, honest, I was all in the Halloween mood, but then I happened upon Shelly's new stuff and now I want to start Christmas shopping...(anyone who knows me, knows I Christmas shop...the week of;) and of course I just had to share...I DO KNOW SO MANY of you who will appreciate this fabulous find! (I'm thinking of you..Kimball, Ros, Betty, Tammy, Kathy, Debbie...oooh soo many people...maybe I'll need a few at the stations to show people;) I soo wish I could sell them at Bijou:) Wait..did I mention they are only $15.00?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

But, every year, I get my kids an ornament, it's always something special, not just any ornament..something about our life..their hobby's, trips we've taken..whatever they like at the moment...This year, I found it early, usually it's the last thing I buy! But then while checking out these Holloween goodies, I came upon these and now I want both!

For those of you not familiar with Skaneateles, these are designed by my good friend Shelly, she is the mastermind behind the decor of Bijou, she is my angel who held my hand while shopping! AND she is also the bride of the modern day frankenstein!

The 200th post AND the bride of frankenstein needs her "do" done!

As I was clicking...create a new post...I realized it's my 200Th post...that is 200 times that I stayed up late writing something! Can I say, I really love it, it's an outlet, it's a way to share, it's a really fun thing to do. Since then I've started blogs for a few other people and if anyone wants to do one, (they are especially great for families far away and easy to do) come in...I will give you a little tutorial and you'll be doing it in no time...it is so simple!

So the reason for the post, was my good friend, who happens to currently be the bride of Frankenstein...the modern day Frankenstein of course;) needed her hair done! At Bijou, everyone is welcome...even monsters...See what we created, with a lot of teasing...a lot of hairspray...and a little white angora yarn..SO soft!

This hair definitely needs to be raised!! 1-2 feet to be exact!

My masterpiece of the year!!!

Someone adorable donates to Locks of love!

Here is Miss E, another young girl with a beautiful "mane", ("E" loves horses, so pun intended:) sacrificing it for another young girl somewhere out there that needs her "mane" more than she does!
For as long as I have known "E", she has had these long beautiful locks, she wears them straight, curly or however, but normally never gets more than a couple inches off. It's a truly unselfish act when you are a teen and are willing to donate your hair...hair to teens...is oh so important and sometimes scary to lose! I know for me, when I was a teen, it was my identity...(okay I grew up in the 80's, so bear with me..) I was know for my lions mane..or "Bon Jovi hair"...I wonder if at that time if they had Locks of love...would I have donated my hair? I'm not sure...I may have not been as brave and unselfish as "E"!

Don't you love the purple streak!? She got it right here at Bijou! Yep, we do everything here...in fact, look here tomorrow, we even do "monster" hair!
There she is, I love it when girls get their pony tails cut off, you can almost feel the energy when their holding it...they know it is now out of their hands and onto a place to make some young girl's life a little easier!

I wish I had taken a picture of the pictures "E" brought...it was a perfect match! Courtney did a fantastic job!

So there you have the finished look, doesn't she look like a totally different kid!? From former middle schooler...to high schooler, in one cut! What a transformation!

Thanks "E" for letting us do the honors!

And as always, at Bijou, when you donate your hair, we donate our time, The haircut if free!

If you're wondering...Bijou Salon can decorate a porta potty!

I asked a little while ago, how do you make a porta potty pretty? I wasn't completely confident that I, even with a little help could do it....Well I should've known...with a little help, anything can be done! Here's how you do it!!
1.) Ask 2 of the best engineers you know, to strategically wrap the porta potty, taking away the dimpled blue, green or gray exterior. Make sure you give them a couple of hours to work, afterall it will be perfect! (Thanks Thomas and Uncle Mikey!)

2.) Go to the party store, target clearence (rug $5) and the craft store. On the shopping list (thanks to Shelly's brilliant idea) Aqua paper plates, paint, gems, ribbon...and a bonus find of chocolate and aqua polka dotted table cloth for $2! OH and how could I forget...Duct tape!!!

3.) Ask your artist friend, (aka Mrs. Godsend herself) to help you beautify something else in Chocolate and Aqua colors. (Make sure the she does not pass out from clean scented fumes in porta potty!) When brainstorming for what the front would say, laugh hysterically when she suggests RELIEVE, relax and rejuvenate...instead of what it says on the relaxation room...REVIVE, relax and rejuvenate...(that laughing part was EASY!) (Thanks Shelly!)

4.) Make sure the french music and our signature paper lanterns in Bijou colors are hung..with duct tape of course!

5.) Be a cheerleader for all the other porta potty creators! Borrow scissors and lend ladders to all the rest! We loved seeing all the different ideas, the whole thing was hysterical!

6.) Stand by the portable toilette and take a picture! There you have it! After cold fingers, and a few hours, the porta potty is no longer grey, it's beautiful as Bijou Salon! (No matter what we did though, it didn't smell as good as the real Bijou:)

Here is one of our first customers walking through...the awards were Judges choice and peoples choice. The judges choice went to Jenny and Claire from The dealer car shop in town...theirs was soo awesome, well thought and expertly executed! The people's choice award.....

WENT TO BIJOU SALON.....WOOOHOOOOO!
THANK YOU - THANK YOU

Here is the oh so cute, Go to girl, Erin Sammut! I loved her face when she saw what everyone had done! Priceless!

A beautiful, rich color, done by Stacy O'neal at Bijou in Skaneateles!

Stacy was a CHI color educator in Terra Haute, IN, before coming to Bijou. All of us absolutely adore Stacy and so do our Bijou clients!

Today she did an awesome Chocolatey color, the client had gone darker a couple of weeks ago, but it had faded all away, so Stacy stepped in, made some really great calls on what color to use and voila! Here she is! If I were really smart, I would have taken a before picture and the pictures she brought in...I wasn't expecting the color to be so dramatic and gorgeous and let me tell you, Polly was one happy camper!

Great job Stacy!

UPDATE: Polly came back the next day with a huge smile on her face and a lot of thanks for the new color! It's the best when we get to see it after it's done and to know that they are really indeed happy with the results! Thanks!
